Beautiful Family

So I ran away from my husband last weekend to go hang out with my family back in Wisconsin. We avoided any airport security awkwardness, and flights both there and home were smooth as could be.

I had a bit of financial stress occur over the course of my stay, but after all is said and done, no major disasters or overdrafts have occurred. So thank goodness for email bank alerts.

But the best part of the trip, as always, is the time spent with the people I love most in the world. The main reason for the weekend getaway was my sister’s baby shower. She’s having a boy in or around early February. And even though I get the impression that she doesn’t feel like it, I’ve never seen her more beautiful. And I got the distinct impression that her husband sees it, too.

We got to go see my seventeen-year-old play basketball with his high school varsity team. He’s still a junior, so he didn’t play more than a few minutes, but I was so proud to be there cheering him on.

My niece is in college, and she has been working so hard to develop her artistic talent. Her work is simply stunning, and though I’m certainly a proud auntie, I have a bit of the artsy stuff in my background, too, so I know what I’m talking about. She’s also grown into quite the gorgeous young lady.

And my youngest nephew (at least for another couple of months), well, he has such a way with my son, I loved watching them together. He’s so patient and loving. He is growing into such a wonderful young man.

My sister-in-law was looking super hot. And as always, it was great to talk to her and catch up. And even though their family has been going through a bit of a tough time, my brother had a few smiles of his own to share. He was the one who got the whole family, all eleven of us, into one long human train (M’s favorite game), which stretched almost entirely through the kitchen, hallway, bedroom and bathroom to circle back around and connect to itself.

As always, M had a blast with any and every one of his four grandparents. The joy he brings to them is tangible, and I’m so glad when I get to participate in bringing that to them. My mother is one of the most beautiful women I know. And my dad is a wonderful man.

In conclusion, I am truly grateful for all the beautiful people in my life. I’m one super lucky sister, mother, aunt and daughter. So thanks again, everybody, for another great little trip. Even though I missed my spouse, my time was filled with enough love and laughter I managed not to get too lonely for him.
